Chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon are all loaded with antioxidants and taste great, too.
Lila’s not usually one for hot drinks, but all this cold weather has had some influence. Here’s a yummy hot chocolate that packs a lot of flavor into just about 100 calories.
Measure out 1 cup of skim milk and heat it up in the microwave.
While that’s heating, put the following in a separate mug:
– 2 rounded tablespoons (or the equivalent) of a zero calorie sweetener (I like Equal).
– 2 rounded tablespoons of unsweetened powdered cocoa
– 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules
– 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon
Mix up the dry ingredients until you have a uniform powder, then slowly add the hot milk, stirring all the while. Voila! I love the slightly mocha flavor with the cinnamon zing.
If you’re looking to cut even more calories, you could substitute hot water for the skim milk, and that would cut the overall recipe down to just about 20 calories. On the other hand, if you’re leery of artificial sweeteners, you can use two rounded tablespoons of sugar instead… hey, sometimes the extra calories are worth it!
